Who needs a floppy?

I had to install some old custom software for a business client's brand new computer a. Luckily, it came as 5 folders for each floppy disk. Unluckily, the software installer checked to see if the files were actually on a floppy disk.

I was able to fake out the program using Virtual Floppy Drive 2.1

As a side benefit, the five disks that were to be used transferred almost instantly. I was able to delete the files off the virtual floppy and paste next set of files in seconds. In comparison, using a real life floppy would seem like a time vacuum.

The only problem I ran into was I had to create a blank virtual floppy disk image. I was then able to copy disk1, disk2, etc to the virtually mounted floppy drive

I downloaded a 30 day trial from winimage on another PC and created a blank floppy image.

I saved the image as a .vfd file

The virtual floppy disk had no problem mounting the image I created and the software installed without a hitch.

Here is the blank floppy image to download if needed.
