Fios install or Spyware

I had a job where the customer blamed a recent Verizon Fios installation on her computer woes. The internet worked great. However, the computer would go in and out. Displaying, "this page could not be found. " The other computer worked just fine on her wireless network and was good clue that her Fios install was working as expected. It turns out, the customer had recently upgraded her anti virus software. The software had expired some time ago. She didn't bother to upgrade it until she received spyware on her computer. (not that having security software would have saved her)Little did she know that, antivirus software is effectively useless. One of most common fixes to wierd or random computer problems is to remove your anti-virus and security software. I do not know who makes anti -virus software or what the software developers are thinking when they create the many security "features" that wreak havok on a PC. The worst of the bunch are mcafee and norton. I would rather get malware then use their bloated and useless software. In this particular case, norton or mcafee were not the villains. However, use security software on one's pc at one's own risk. Anti virus software goes in the same category as dentists, car dealerships, best buy, mattress salesman and phone companies.
